Life on Wheels instructors are RV experts…Many are authors of books and some are major contributors to RV publications. Most are experienced teachers and speakers at RV show, rallies, and conventions. All are willing to share their experiences and expertise with their fellow RVers. Not all of the instructors make presentations at every conference location.
NATHAN BAER… is the Eastern Regional Technical Trainer for Cequent Towing Products. Nathan spent almost nine years with Stag-Parkway, one of the largest aftermarket RV parts distributors in the country. After that he owned a RV parts and service business in South Florida and then worked in sales and service for an RV business in Georgia prior to going to work for Cequent. (Kentucky)
TOM & NANCY BICKERS…retired at the end of 1997 and embarked on a life of fulltime RVing, hosting in state parks and traveling for fun. Their first official "training" for this lifestyle was at a Life on Wheels Conference in San Marcos, Texas in early 1998. Now they work as part of the SkyMed Team and continue to travel, going to RV rallies eight months of the year and working in snowbird areas in the winter. (Arizona)
ROY BOORMAN…has been a photographer for fifty years and a computer buff for twenty-six years. He has been involved in the “digital scene” since its inception as a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals. As an RV’er for the past twelve years, he has traveled in every state, seven Canadian provinces and throughout Mexico and Baja Mexico, photographing and giving seminars. He has given seminars for most of the large RV organizations, taught on-going classes in Digital Photography in fourteen Southern California cities and been a special interest lecturer on Digital Photography aboard several cruise liners. MIKE & TERRI CHURCH… are the authors and publishers of seven popular RVing guidebooks. Their books have helped thousands of RVers enjoy traveling in Alaska, Mexico, and Europe as well as the Pacific Northwest and the Southwest regions of the U.S. They are full-timers and drive over 30,000 miles in their RV each year as they revisit these destinations as part of the continuous process of keeping their books up-to-date. JOHN & MARILYN CONNELLY… retired from the State of Hawaii Department of Education in 2005 after 35 years of teaching. During the last ten years they also served as Co Chairs of the International Student Media Festival sponsored by the Association for Educational Communications and Technology. They have a history of successfully conducting classes and workshops for adults. In the summer of 2004 they attended LOW in Moscow, ID to do research on motorhomes and living on wheels. The next summer they purchased their motorhome, based largely on the excellent information they received at LOW, and have been full timing ever since. (Idaho)
AL COHOE…RVIA Master Technician, certified in both the USA & Canada. He has thirty-six years of RV experience, began his career in the RV industry in 1972 with Vanguard Manufacturing, a Canadian RV manufacturer, where he worked in all phases of RV construction. Later he spent twelve years as a service manager for an RV dealership. For the past twenty years, he has instructed the RV Technician Program at Okanagan University College. He has developed and taught four levels of apprenticeship for the RV Technician program now offered by the college. He has fifteen diplomas from various service schools. JERRY & CAROL DALE…were fulltimers for fourteen years and have traveled most of the U.S. and Canada; they have been towing four wheels down for over thirty years. ERIC DAVIS… is in his 30th year as founder, owner, and operator of Eric’s RV Performance Center in Sequim, Washington. His shop is dedicated to solving the inefficiencies and repetitive problems in engines and RV chassis to make RVing more reliable and more fun. LYNN DIFLEY… is an exercise instructor and weight trainer, certified instructor with ACE, AEA, Nautilus, and the Arthritis Foundation. She has been teaching fitness and exercise classes for twenty-five years, including ten years' instructing seniors. She has also supervised smoking cessation programs, blood pressure reduction classes, and water workouts. She writes the Healthy Living column for Woodall's Publications and Fitness on the Road for Western RV News as well as exercise and fitness articles for RV and general interest magazines. She has written and published two books: Sit Moves Fit Moves, and Good Backs. JOE & NITA GREEN…have been campers and RVers for 27 years, and just completed their 10th year as fulltimers. They have now become extended RVers, spending the winter months at their home in Yuma, AZ. and traveling the balance of the time. Joe is a semi-retired expert on occupational health and safety, and spent many years as a lecturer, trainer, and consultant for various groups in the U.S. For most of this time, Nita was also his office manager. Their home on wheels is a 40-foot fifth wheel pulled by a "big truck". They tow their rig over 15,000 miles each year. W.R. (RE) HAIL…with guide dog Nathan & wife Patti (a retired educator) are dedicated campers, sailors, and scuba divers; and made the transition to full time Rving in 2007. Declared legally blind in 2000 after retiring from a long law enforcement career, Re, also a veteran, now serves as a volunteer spokesperson representing Guide Dogs for the Blind. He gives seminars to organizations and community groups across the country about service dogs, while Patti is an activities coordinator for Escapees Rainbow Parks. FRANCES HAWKINS…never camped until she was 51 years young. She had never been in an RV when she attended her first Life On Wheels conference in Harrisburg, PA in 1997. Since then she has taken kayak trips in the Ozarks and California, attended dance rallies, visited the Maritime provinces and Mexico, served with the Red Cross to help a town wiped out by a tornado, and much more. ORV HAZELTON…brings more than 35 years of safety experience in the interstate bus and trucking industries to our classroom. He is certified as an instructor by the National Safety Council. ROBERT HENDERSON… holds a management degree from the Automotive Service Management Institute and has additional training in SBA sponsored courses in his field. The Henderson team develops and markets a line of aftermarket steering and suspension enhancement parts for the RV industry through its SuperSteer Division. DENNIS HILL…Dennis and his wife Carol have been RVing for over thirty-five years. In June 2000, they started full timing and have been ever since. They have owned a variety of converted vans, towables, fifth wheels with both pickups and medium duty. In addition, they have owned Class A's to include both gas and diesel. Dennis has experience with nationwide big truck driving and transporting both new towables and motorhomes. GREG HOLDER…has been designing, installing, and living with solar electric systems since 1987. He has taught “Solar Savvy” seminars at RV shows and adult education programs through community colleges for ten years. He has a degree in Alternative Energy Sources from Western Washington University and is certified for photovoltaic design and installation and advanced photovoltaics. ARLENE JANSSENS…After 30 years as an administrator with Oregon's social services, she retired and started her own consulting business. She is a workshop leader, church consultant, inspirational speaker and developer of anti-poverty programs.Twelve weeks after the purchase of a new motorhome, her husband was diagnosed with a fatal brain tumor. After his sudden death, Arlene learned to drive, maintain, and enjoy the home on wheels. She's been traveling solo since 1997; driving to the tip of Baja, throughout Alaska, and many of the lower 48 states. JOE &VICKI KIEVA… have over 45 years of RVing experience. Their travels, in a variety of RVs, have taken them throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and six European countries. GAYLORD MAXWELL…is the founder and director of the Life on Wheels conferences. The former history teacher turned RV dealer started writing articles for TL Enterprises (Trailer Life, MotorHome, RV Business, Woodalls Campground Management) in 1972. His column in MotorHome magazine has been a feature for more than twenty-five years. The author of two books—Fulltiming: An Introduction to Fulltime RVing and Home, Sweet Motorhome—he and his wife Margie spend their winters in Yuma, Arizona. RUSSELL MAXWELL…has been involved in the RV supplier side of the industry for over twenty-one years. GEORGE "MAC" MCCOY…has served 35 years in the fire service and holds a BS Degree in Fire Science and a Masters Degree in Fire Administration. Mac has served as a firefighter paramedic, Captain, Assistant Chief of Training, Deputy State Fire Marshal, and Deputy Sheriff. For 12 years as the Fire Training Coordinator for Oregon's Fire Marshal's Office and Public Safety Academy. Mac has taught fire safety to civilians, military, firefighters, law enforcement, corrections officers and Boy Scouts of America in both the US and overseas. JERRY RAY…a Professional Driver Instructor, Jerry has been RVing since 1971 in everything from a tent trailer to Class A motor homes. He has been a licensed commercial driver for over forty years. PEGGY WATERMAN…Peggy Waterman is the Life on Wheels conference coordinator and has been with the program since its inception 14years ago. Before retiring Peggy worked for the University of Idaho’s Community Programs providing noncredit classes for the community. Now she and her husband, Clyde, are looking forward to traveling around the country in their RV. Both like to fish and Peggy loves to quilt.
GLENN WHITAKER…love of photography began shortly after he discovered how much he and his family loved camping and RVing. With many hours of professional classes at the Showcase School of Photography in Atlanta behind him, he mostly enjoys photographing nature. This year marks the sixth year that the Whitakers have made the trip from Georgia to Moscow to attend Life on Wheels.
